City Briefly

Last week, City Manager Tom Aspell thought long and hard about how he’d want to make a difference this year. So Aspell did what he does best and that’s put together his weekly city memo and pass it along for everyone to read and enjoy.

Watch your step

Clean up after your pooch

The city’s cemeteries are a beautiful place to visit and many take advantage of their safe walking paths. There has been an increased amount of people allowing their dogs to run free and defecate in the cemeteries.

Please be respectful of our sacred grounds, keep dogs on leashes at all times and clean up after them, Aspell writes. And just to be clear, the same goes for all you humans out there as well.

Not only is it common courtesy, but it is required by City Ordinance No. 1880, Section 12-1-1.

Congratulations

Driscoll gets promotion

Concord General Services is pleased to announce the promotion of Dan Driscoll as the new Wastewater Treatment Superintendent. Driscoll will take over for Mike Hanscom, who is retiring on Jan. 29, 2016, after a 30 year career with the city, 21 of those years as Wastewater Treatment Superintendent.

Driscoll has been a Wastewater Treatment Operations Supervisor with the city for five years. He has received advanced leadership training through the Primex Emerging Leaders Program and supervisor training through the Primex Supervisors Academy, Aspell writes. Sounds like this Driscoll guy sure does like to overachieve.

Driscoll is certified as a Grade IV N.H. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and a Grade II N.H. Drinking Water Treatment and Distribution Operator. Prior to working for the City of Concord, Driscoll was a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator for the City of Manchester. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. The city appreciates Hanscom’s dedicated years of service and congratulates Driscoll on his new position.

Sewalls bridge update

Last week, the contractor completed the pile driving operation at the westerly abutment and made progress on the temporary work platform adjacent to the existing truss spans, Aspell writes. At least we know what all that loud commotion outside the office has been for.

This week, the form work will begin for the concrete footing of the westerly abutment, water main installation will occur at the south end of the project, and continued progress will be made on the temporary work platform.

Bye bye

Pool stuff done for year

Construction has ended for the season on the Rolfe Park pool. The concrete shell of the pool has been put into place and the coat of plaster will be completed in the spring. The concrete has been poured for the new deck around the pool as well, Aspell writes. Maybe they can come to our houses next.

Contractors have also excavated the “baby pool” adjacent to the new pool to address drainage, maintenance and aesthetic issues.
