City Briefly

-

Every week, City Manager Tom Aspell stares through the windows of the SPCA looking for just the right pet to fit into his corner office. Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed at City Hall, so he uses the application to spell out his city memo.

Upgrades

Who wants to swim?

The Public Properties Division of the General Services Department has begun scheduled renovations at Rolfe Park. The renovations will improve safety and accessibility of the pool, including improved sight lines for the lifeguards and a zero-entry entrance to better accommodate all users, Aspell writes. So can you actually enter or is it zero-entry? We’re confused.

The pool deck will also receive some upgrades and a new water feature may also be added for some of the younger pool users, Aspell writes. Hopefully it’s a giant slip and slide with a jump at the end that sends you straight into an alligator’s mouth – a fake one, of course.

Renovations are projected to be completed before the next pool season.

Too early?

Arena open for skating

Last week, Concord General Services’ staff painted the concrete and assembled the ice rink for the start of skating season at the Douglas N. Everett Arena, which officially began Sept. 21, Aspell writes. There should really be a rule against winter activities before it’s actually winter.

Public skating hours are Monday through Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and on Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 (kids aged 3 and under are free) and skate rentals are available at the pro shop for an additional $5.
