Manguetown Pictures announces its upcoming summer project, The Priest. The short film, which will enter production in July, is about the controversial relationship between science and religion.
The movie, written and directed by Pedro Pimentel, takes place in late 1800s, early 1900s, in a New England town, during a very melancholic time of the year. It’s the story of Mary and Joseph McWilliams, a couple with very conflicting ideological basis, fighting to be able to cure their daughter of the unexpected symptoms she started to present. Happening a little over a century ago, in a very patriarchal society, when the father of the family still held the final say, the film revolves around Joseph, a very religious man, who decided to seek help from a priest, hoping he’d be able to help his daughter. Mary, who believed otherwise, wanted to have a more broad source of explanations to their child’s condition, maybe visiting a doctor to see what they’d have to say. Her thoughts triggered the priest’s attention, who felt threatened by her ideas, pushing the story toward a very complex and delicate path. Starring Craig Capone as the priest, Michael Coppola as Joseph, Mary Ferrara as Mary and Isabella Coulombe as the daughter, it will be filmed at Kimball-Jenkins Estate this summer.
The Priest has released its online fundraising campaign, on Indiegogo.com, to help the crew cover all the production costs, from props, costumes and music, to transportation, equipment and release. Every contribution will come with prizes that are based on the given donation, and varies from a digital download of the movie, to an executive producer package, including posters, T-shirts and much more.
