Concord Christian Academy held its annual auction March 20 at Concord’s National Guard Armory. A great evening was had by all with more than 250 silent auction items to bid for and an exciting live auction led by our very own auctioneer, Freddy Rivera, better known as our sports coach.

Many of the auction items were very kindly donated by our local Concord and New Hampshire businesses, who have supported our annual fundraisers over the last four years. We appreciate their partnership with the school to make this event such a success. Gift baskets put together by the parents and students in classes Pre-K through 12th grade were very popular, especially those with a spring and summer theme. This year’s event was held to raise funds to provide new computers for our students’ computer department. Thanks to our parents and guests it was a huge success, enabling us to be well on the way to purchasing 60 Chromebook computers and their charging carts.

Our math and science high school teacher and technology coordinator, James Schofield, and his colleague Mr. Newell were on hand to demonstrate the new Chromebooks and how the students would benefit from their versatility and the online curriculums available to them. By the end of the evening many of our guests had each sponsored a computer for a student. Schofield said he was thrilled that we could replace our outdated computers with these ideal systems for his high school students.

This year, for the first time, we held an exciting dessert extravaganza. Eight local bakers and restaurants donated elegant and delicious desserts to showcase their talents. All were invited to sample and enjoy their creations and vote on their favorites. The winning cake for both, “The Most Elegant” and “People’s Choice Award” was created by pastry chef Bethany Rollins from The Red Blazer. Her 14-inch chocolate, caramel and toffee cake was a huge crowd pleaser. Followed closely in second place by a platter of perfect bite-sized coconut chocolate favors made by pastry chef Erika Davis of The Granite Restaurant. Bread and Chocolate was third with a beautiful moist vanilla cake with lemon cream frosting. Our other competitors included: In a Pinch, New England Cupcakery, Shaw’s Bakery, Baked Cafe and Bakery, and Panera, all helping to make the evening a great culinary experience.

Students and friends of Concord Christian Academy held their own dessert competition, too. Hannah Fowler, a seventh grade student, won with “The Perfect Chocolate Cake.” Linda Hutchins took second prize with a dirt cake, complete with gummy worms. Third Prize went to Marilyn Sylvester’s famous carrot cake.

Concord Christian Academy would like to thank all our parents, supporters, donors and guests for making this year’s auction a fun, delicious and successful evening.
