Time to find local wellness honorees who remind you of a good steak

The Capital Area Wellness Coalition can’t guarantee you’ll look as handsome as the healthy living guys at the Concord Family Y, but if you pitch in on the wellness front where you live or work, it bets you’ll be as happy.

Can people all agree that, among the many things we each want in this life, good health is at the top of the list? If you answered “yes,” take a moment to consider your neighborhood, your community, or your workplace. If you could change just one thing to make your world healthier, what would it be? Now take that question one step further: to successfully make that one change, what would it require of you, and of your neighbors or co-workers? What would it take to get it done?

All around the capital area, people just like you have not only asked these questions, they’ve decided to act on the answer.

Are you one of these people, helping to create a culture of health and wellness? Do you know of a team or group that is striving to live healthier lives and encouraging others to do the same?

The Capital Area Wellness Coalition wants to hear about such successes and reward the efforts.

The coalition is now seeking nominations for the Well Done! Awards for 2014. Organizations, business, agencies, groups and inpiduals who have made progress or achieved goals toward creating a culture of health and wellness are invited to apply. Nominations are welcome for each of three award categories: For the Well Workplace award, nominations might include how employers and work site wellness teams have brought healthy living into the work setting; for the Community Wellness Effort, organizations, schools, youth, community groups, or teams take on the challenge of bringing wellness to life; and in the Wellness Hero category, one special inpidual will be honored for making a difference in the lives of those around them.

The coalition believes that bringing attention to the important work community members are doing to make greater Concord a healthier place to live and work will spur others on to take up this important challenge. The coalition invites everyone to nominate wellness champions who are known and admired in area neighborhoods and work sites.

The deadline for submission of the Well Done! Awards application is April 11. Winners will be recognized at an awards breakfast to be held at Northeast Delta Dental on May 14. Visit capwellness.org/capital-area-well-done-awards to view and download the guidelines and the application form. For additional information about the Well Done! Awards, please contact Margaret Fletcher at 230-2711 or email mwfletch@crhc.org.

The Capital Area Wellness Coalition coordinates community resources and builds partnerships to create a culture of healthy living for everyone. The coalition meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the Center for Health Promotion, 49 S. Main St.
