Young Professional of the Month: John Bristol

How old are you? What town do you live in? Where do you work?

I am 24 years old. I live in Concord, right off of downtown. And I work at Liberty Mutual Insurance, less than a mile from where I live.

How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefitted your business or you personally?

A huge part of my job is networking, which I have done in the past through attending chamber of commerce events in other cities. When I came to Concord, I went about it the same way and was quickly roped into CYPN by a very enthusiastic Tonya Rochette and Jessica Eshleman, who invited me to get more involved with the committees. Now I am co-chair of the marketing committee and haven’t looked back. Getting to know the city and key players has benefitted me greatly since I do most of my business as a result of the CYPN and Chamber events. Not to mention, I have really gotten comfortable doing business in a city where it helps to know people.

Tell us about your business and what you do.

I work as a sales representative for Liberty Mutual Insurance, selling auto, home, life and annuity products in New Hampshire and Vermont. I believe in taking a very consultative, no-pressure approach aimed at pointing my clients in the right direction, not just putting them in minimum state coverage. If what I have isn’t in your best interest, I won’t do it. It’s not just about getting coverage, but the right coverage and knowing what you are paying for. I do most of my business through networking at referrals.

What’s your favorite place to go in Concord?

Concord YMCA, True Brew Barista, and running out by the reservoir. Luckily, I live close to all of them.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am an avid triathlete with several finishes in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont, including three half-ironman races. I also volunteer at the Concord YMCA when I’m not training there.

Favorite movie of all time?

I love Cool Hand Luke or anything that Paul Newman is in. And of course I have to default to Top Gun as well. Favorite food? Anything spicy! I find that I could eat Mexican food every day if I had to.

What is one of your life goals?

To qualify for either the Ironman or Ironman 70.3 world championships.

What has been your favorite CYPN event so far?

I really enjoyed the event at Uno’s. The venue was awesome, the food was great, and we had a lot of new faces that I don’t see regularly at other events.

If you could visit any country, where would you go?

I’d really like to see Norway at some point. I have friends that have been there and the pictures are unreal.

Which famous person would you really like to meet?

I think Dave Matthews would be a cool guy to just sit down and have a beer with. I’m a fan of his music, but I think he’d be interesting to get to know.

If you could acquire one super power, what would it be?

I’ll have to go with a classic – flying. It would just be so convenient!

Tell us three interesting facts about yourself!

I am working on climbing the New Hampshire 4,000-footers. I just started this year, have done 5, and hope to do 5 more by this fall. I played rugby in college and still love the game. I just married my best friend last April.
