Lyme disease event

Local authors Katina Makris and Laura Piazza are teaming up to present a free educational event on Lyme disease at Gibsons Bookstore on June 23 at 11 a.m.

With summer at its zenith and tick season in full swing, come learn valuable Lyme disease prevention strategies, lifestyle changes you can implement that promote healing from any illness and about the body-mind-spirit healing pathway available in all of us. These Lyme-literate women are eager to answer questions and to share their stories and their knowledge of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses with the community.

Katina I. Makris, author of the award winning Out of the Woods; Healing Lyme Disease, Body, Mind & Spirit and veteran natural health care practitioner is a graduate of Duke University, maintained a homeopathic practice for close to two decades and is a former newspaper health columnist with The Monadnock Shopper News. She sat on the Council for Homeopathic Certification. Her approach to recovery involves addressing emotional and spiritual wounds as well as physical. Having overcome chronic Lyme herself, Makris is steeped in experience at the personal and professional levels.

Laura Piazza, a chronic Lyme patient and co-author of the popular health book Recipes for Repair: A Lyme Disease Cookbook will share her personal experience of misdiagnosis and discuss the importance of how lifestyle changes, including good nutrition, are an essential part of treatment. Recipes for Repair is a whole foods cookbook that features 151 recipes that were developed with taste and ease in mind by co-author Gail Piazza, adistinguished home economist. The book outlines the successful doctor-written anti-inflammatory diet featured within, strategies on how to incorporate it into your life, and includes 151 delicious recipes.
