The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will be honoring the 25th anniversary of the space shuttle Challenger and the life of Christa McAuliffe on Friday, Jan. 28. A free reception for teachers and their families will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a public program on McAuliffe's life and legacy in the planetarium theatre.
Special guest speaker Alan Ladwig, NASA deputy associate administrator for public outreach, will be presenting a speech on “Christa: Her Life, Legacy, and Implications for the Future” at 6 p.m.. Following will be the premiere of a special 25th anniversary commemorative N.H. Outlook documentary, presented by N.H. Public Television.
Educators will also be given free tours of the Discovery Center observatory and exhibits from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
The public is invited to celebrate the life of Christa McAuliffe at the Discovery Center at 7 p.m. with “A Tribute to Christa.”
McAuliffe was, and remains, one of NASA's most visible and beloved astronauts, and a hero at the Discovery Center that bears her name. Admission is $9 adult, $6 child (3-12), $8 student/senior, free for members. Doors open at 6:30 p.m..
