Domestic assault, criminal mischief
On Dec. 21 about 11:30 p.m., Officer Laura Spaulding was dispatched to 185 Airport Road for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, she saw a man coming out of an apartment with a purple substance covering his left shoulder and back, according to her report.
“I asked him what was going on. The man was unsteady on his feet and had a strong smell of alcohol coming from him,” she wrote.
Spaulding then heard noises coming from the rear of the building, stepped around the corner and saw a sliding door being slammed shut, the report said. The man walked around to the backyard and picked up a laptop computer, which had been broken into pieces.
The man told the police that it was his laptop, and that the woman who threw the computer was Cherry Katsoulis, 30, of Concord.
Spaulding and another officer walked the man back up to his apartment. As he turned to walk inside the building, Spaulding asked about the purple substance covering his back. “He said, ‘I don’t know, whatever she threw at me.’ I asked him if it was candle wax. He said, ‘Yes, she threw a candle at me,’ ” Spaulding wrote.
The police went inside to speak with Katsoulis. The apartment was in disarray, Spaulding wrote, and Katsoulis appeared to be highly intoxicated.
Spaulding asked what was going on, and Katsoulis denied that anything was wrong.
Spaulding then asked about the wax and the computer. Katsoulis did not answer, the report said.
“Katsoulis continued to say that everything was fine and that nothing had happened. I asked for her identification and she stated that it was on the coffee table. She stumbled into the other room to look for it. There was spilled beer all over the coffee table,” Spaulding wrote. “I saw a large kitchen knife on the floor next to the couch.”
Katsoulis was arrested on charges of domestic assault and criminal mischief. She was released on $40 cash and is due in court on Jan. 19.
Simple assault, unlawful possession
About 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 25, Officers Joseph Russell and Craig Levesque were dispatched to 46-A Charles St. in Penacook for a report of a domestic dispute in progress. According to Russell’s report, the officers heard screaming and loud banging coming from the apartment. When they approached the front door, they heard one more extremely loud crash. They knocked on the front door and “everything went silent,” Russell wrote.
A woman answered the door visibly upset and it appeared that she had been crying, the report said. Russell asked her what was going on and she said “Nothing.” Russell asked her about the male voice that he had heard coming from inside the apartment. She said no one else was there. Russell and Levesque entered the apartment, and Russell began to search the premises for additional inpiduals, his report said.
The woman told the officers that her children were sleeping in one of the rooms, and she was concerned about waking them up. She also said that she had been yelling into the phone at her fiancé but was insistent that he was not present. According the report, Russell entered the children’s room and saw a bunk bed with a small child sleeping on the bottom bunk. He noted the blankets appeared to contain a much larger object than just the child’s body, the report said.
“I originally thought it could be multiple pillows or an adult body,” Russell wrote. “I lifted the blankets near the end of the bed and observed two adult-sized feet. Knowing that she had said there was no one else in the house besides her children, I peeled back the blankets to find a male subject.”
The subject, identified as Sean Dashnaw, 20, of Concord, explained that he and the woman were arguing over relationship issues.
“I could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person and noticed that his eyes were glassy,” Russell wrote. Dashnaw told the police that he had had a couple drinks to celebrate the holidays.
While in the apartment, the officers observed a stereo cabinet with the glass door broken and glass still on the floor around it. Dashnaw explained that the cabinet had been broken during the argument. He said that the woman was getting ready to leave and he did not want her to go, knowing that she had also been drinking. He said he grabbed her shoulders and attempted to stop her from leaving. Dashnaw told the police that in the process, he pushed on her shoulders, which caused her to hit the stereo cabinet and damage it, Russell wrote.
Dashnaw was arrested on charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and unlawful possession of alcohol. He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance and is due in court on Jan. 18.
