Supply toys and warm coats for kids in need

The Friends of Forgotten Children has helped serve New Hampshire families for nearly four decades. With so much need during these tough economic times, this giving tradition is threatened with extinction.

The Friends of Forgotten Children is launching a new program this holiday season, to make sure that every child is able to enjoy the magic of the season. Your gift of $35 will provide toys and a warm jacket to a New Hampshire child in need this year.

Donations can be made at fofcnh.org or by calling 491-0396. You can also mail your gift to Friends of Forgotten Children 224 Bog Rd Concord NH 03303.

Give the gift of help

Are you looking for ideas for the perfect gift? Consider a gift that could save the day –- for a family that needs winter clothing after their home burned to the ground; for a service member who needs to phone home; or for an elderly couple who needs emergency shelter during an ice storm.

The American Red Cross has announced its second holiday giving campaign, featuring its holiday giving catalog at redcross.org/gifts. The Red Cross has more than 20 gift ideas such as assisting someone in the military with a phone card or supplies, providing food and shelter to a disaster victim, covering the costs of snacks at a blood drive, or giving basic necessities to a family in another country.

The purchase of each gift is a tax-deductible contribution to the overall mission of the American Red Cross. On the rare occasion when donations exceed the need in a particular area, we will use your contribution to help others where the need is greatest.

Get hot and toasty with free Bikram classes

Bikram Yoga Concord, 245 N. State St. Unit A, will get into the holiday spirit with a day of giving. On Dec. 19, the yoga studio will be hosting a series of free yoga classes as well as holding a food drive to benefit local food pantries. All are welcome and encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate.

This event, which occurs during Concord’s blustery winter, encourages the public to get out of the cold and into a yoga hot room. Free classes will be held at 9 and 11 a.m., as well as 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Students new to the studio should plan to arrive at least 20 minutes in advance, wear light clothing and bring a water bottle.

If you can’t join us for this meeting or have ideas for books to consider, feel free to stop at the reference desk and let us know or drop us an e-mail at library@concordnh.gov with the subject line “Concord Reads.”

We’re looking forward to celebrating our tenth year of Concord Reads. Help us make it memorable.
