The Bulletin Board

Beware of phantoms. And vampires, too

On Oct. 10, people across the planet will pick up hammers, shovels and caulking-guns and join the 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the world’s largest day of practical, commonsense action to
fight the climate crisis. In Concord, they will be wearing Halloween costumes.

After the rally, people will disperse to Concord neighborhoods to canvass for their favorite political candidates (optional) and to educate people about phantom and vampire loads. A phantom load is any appliance or electronic gizmo that uses energy even when turned off. Some people call them “vampire appliances” or “energy vampires.”

People in costumes will rally in front of the State House, canvass the city, then head to Miles Smith Farm for Farm Day, where a historical re-enactor will be hanging spooky, old clothes on a clothesline in conjunction with a graveyard tour. The rally begins at 10:10 a.m.; the canvass begins at 11 a.m. Farm Day at Miles Smith Farm is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
