Presidential Oaks resident Florence Tolland and was honored last week at a party to celebrate her 106th birthday!
Kids from the Presidential Oaks children center presented Florence with a large drawing of a birthday cake, each of the 106 candles finger-painted by the children.
Florence has lived at the retirement home since 2002. She enjoys attending music programs, social events, and Wii bowling. “Florence is a striking figure among the residents, a remarkable person with a great personality,” said Jane Teahan, director of activities. “She's fully able to make her own decisions and insists on her clothes being matched, her hair done up with fancy barrettes, and carrying her pink bag. That's always with her.”
Florence is no stranger to the attention of admirers, either. During a National Home Week celebration, Florence was crowned Miss Presidential Oaks.
Florence easily navigates the halls of Presidential Oaks in her wheelchair. Her adventurous spirit probably developed as a result of her many travel adventures. Florence was a world traveler in her youth, traveling extensively through Europe and sailing aboard the Queen Mary.
