A night out with the Concord police

Looking for some neighborhood fun that benefits the Concord community? The Concord Police Department is hosting its 27th annual National Night Out on Aug. 3 at Rollins Park from 5 to 9 p.m. The point of the event is to encourage awareness about crime and drug prevention, and to strengthen the bond between police and community.

There will be food on hand: Hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy and Sno-Cones are $1 a pop, and refreshments will be available, too. Activities include music, bike safety demonstrations, an inflatable slide, karate demonstrations, youth activities, and more.

Another reason to go: There'll be a giant dodge ball tournament happening and the department is looking for other teams to defeat throw the ball around with.

Registration for a team of 6 to 10 players is $100. You can register a team by calling John Thomas (225-8600, ext. 3752), Derek Martel (848-6246), or Joe Wright (225-8600, ext. 3738).
