A BIG event you won't want to miss

The Community Players and Red River Theatres are going to have a BIG week April 24-May 1.

Red River will be showing “Big,” the 1988 movie starring Tom Hanks in matinees all though school vacation week.

The Players will be presenting “Big the Musical” at the Concord City Auditorium on April 30 and May 1 at 8 p.m. and May 2 at 2 p.m.

“Big Week” will kick off on Sunday, April 25, with a special 7 p.m. showing of “Big” the movie at Red River, followed by a discussion led by The Players on how the musical was created from the movie.

Both the movie and the musical focus on happier times and retell that timeless story about the dreams of childhood, the realities of adulthood and a reminder to remember the kid inside.

This musical will be produced by Players' president Wayland Brunnell with Eric Halter, Charles Mitchell and Bob Pearson and directed by Children's Theater Workshop founder Karen Braz, who has been bringing out the best acting in kids in the Children's Theater Project for the last 15 years.

The collaboration of the Players and Red River will include a discount on the musical for those with a ticket stub from the movie,

The Players will also be distributing “Big Deal” coupons in other local theaters and shops. A traveling floor piano – similar to one featured in the movie and musical – will be available at places where families hang out to promote the play, and will be auctioned off at the last musical performance on May 2.
