It takes a village (and a tree) to get into the holiday spirit!

The Penacook tree lighting event held on Nov. 30 was a success. Several people and organizations deserve thanks for their contribution. The Penacook Elementary Chorus, under the direction of Elaine Hashem, ushered in the holiday spirit with songs of the season!

Councilor Liz Blanchard was the master of ceremonies. Three years ago she gave the star at the top of tree to the city in memory of her husband. Her grandson, Zachary, provided a sound system and led the caroling.

Councilor Steve Shurtleff made arrangements with the city for traffic control, set up of barricades to provide more than 300 villagers the room to gather safely around the tree, and had the honor of flipping the newly-installed tree light switch to start off the celebration.

Thanks also go to the Bassett family, the Maxwell family and Leslie Barnsley for baking cookies for the children. The Concord Model Railroad Club also deserves thanks for creating two storefront window displays next to the Penacook Pharmacy.
