Pints for Prostates

Barb's Beer Emporium, 208 N. Main St., is a sponsor for Pints For Prostates, a campaign developed to approach men in a comfortable forum, using the universal language of beer to inform and educate men about the importance of PSA testing and prostate screening. Pints For Prostates, founded by Rick Lyke, who is one of the lucky ones who found out how important early detection is, joins the efforts made by Us Too International Support Network, a nonprofit group founded by and governed by prostate cancer survivors.

The staff at Barb's are eager to support this cause. To provide information and raise support and awareness, Barb's is holding an open house on Oct. 17 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be a beer tasting provided by Smuttynose Brewery, Sam Adams and Shipyard. There will also be a beer cook-off competition, giveaways, appetizers served by Uno Chicago Grill, raffles, a silent auction and face painting.

Items for the raffle were generously donated by such companies as Shipyard Brewery, Gritty's Brewery, Harpoon Brewery, Sam Adams, Victory Brewing, Magic Hat Brewery, Woodstock Brewery, Draft Magazine, All About Beer Magazine, Home Depot, Best Buy and many more.

The cost to attend the open house is $5. The public is welcome to visit the store before then to bid on auction items or to purchase raffle tickets.

All proceeds will benefit Pints For Prostates. For more information, call 369-4501 or visit barbsbeeremporium.com.
