From 'Concord Got Cool' to 'Goodgood Concord'

First, a little history: Goodgood Concord is the next step in what began with “Concord Got Cool When You Weren’t Looking.” CGC started out in 2008 as a funny idea for a T-shirt, but ended up capturing and describing a unique time period in Concord. When I moved here in 2005, Concord was still simmering in old stereotypes: the sidewalks roll up at 5 p.m., there’s nothing happening here, and of course, Bill Whitman’s immortally hilarious description of old Concord: “Concord, City In A Coma” (another motto that was perfect for its time). But something happened. New types of business, new energy, and new events started popping up and suddenly it seemed that Concord indeed, had gotten cooler. It was time to pay attention.

So why goodgood concord?

“Concord Got Cool When You Weren’t Looking” was the perfect motto for a moment. The moment when we released old, dead stereotypes and realized that we could make our city a place that we were proud to live, work, and be alive. A moment when we looked around and saw what was really here, and tore away the yellow paper of yesterday’s news. A moment when we lurched forward in time with the inclusion, spark, and innovation to redefine a place called Concord, New Hampshire. It was a perfect motto at a perfect moment. Now? That moment, happily, has passed. We have nothing to apologize for anymore. Concord is vibrant, busy, growing, changing and electric. And it’s all good. It’s so good it’s “goodgood.”

goodgood concord is…
