Derby season is ready to roll

The women of Granite State Roller Derby will open their second season on April 7 at Everett Arena.

The “Sibling Rivalry”-themed bout features a rematch against the Queen City Cherry Bombs, a team from New Hampshire Roller Derby of Manchester. Local favorite Captain Chet Lawson's Snake Oil Review will perform at halftime. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m.; the game begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance on the league's website, granitestaterollerderby.com, or at one of these local vendors: Spank Alley Skateshop (upstairs at 8 N. Main St.) and Arnie's Ice Cream (164 Loudon Road.). Tickets also may be purchased at the door.

Flat-track roller derby offers an entertaining and exciting time for the whole family. Children under 5 are admitted free, seniors and military are $8, and adults are $10 for advance tickets. Prices are $2 higher at the door.

Fans also are invited to join the ladies of GSRD and NHRD at the Barley House in downtown Concord for the after party. Meet the skaters and learn more about the comeback of roller derby!

Granite State Roller Derby was founded in 2010. The league's travel team, the Legislashers, has five home bouts scheduled for 2012, along with away bouts in several other states.
