City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell dresses his pet ferrets, Kimball and Jenkins, in their best tuxedos to check out all the great artwork at the school named after them. Thankfully, there’s a city memo left behind in their cage.

Fight fire with fireworks

Or you could watch them

The city’s annual July 4 celebration will be held at Memorial Field on July 4 (rain date July 5), Aspell writes. How they arrived at the date for an event with that name we’ll never know.

The city is excited to announce that for the first time in several decades, the fireworks will be fired from the Memorial Field complex itself (one rumor has it that they will also be made entirely of chocolate!) This will dramatically increase the visibility of the show for everyone at the park, and also likely make the booms even boomier (boom level estimation approximate).

Highlights of the celebration include: American Legion baseball bame (free) at 4 p.m.; WJYY broadcasting live on site at 5:30 p.m.; Never’s Band Concert at 7:30 p.m.; and the fireworks show at 9:15 p.m./dusk.

This is a curb blurb

Workers still doing work

F.L. Merrill Construction and Continental Paving have completed paving the roadway from Boudreau Square north to the Boscawen town line as part of the Route 3 corridor improvement project in Penacook Villager, Aspell writes. Coincidentally we’ve just completed telling you about it. Both endeavors were extremely taxing.

Granite State Curbing crews have begun installing the granite curb along the roadway and will continue into this week.  The concrete sidewalks are slated to be poured next week, as well. Concrete was chosen over memory foam as the sidewalk material in what we would call a controversial decision.

The city parking lot adjacent to Chief’s Restaurant was to be reconfigured and paved June 23.

We’ve reached a pide

Trash trucks go halvsies

Casella, the city’s contracted trash and recycling vendor, has started to use split-body trucks for their curbside collection routes. Split-body drivers are no longer being considered, though.

Instead of using two separate trucks for recycling and trash, it is more efficient to use one truck, saving both time and money. The previous revelation has been brought to you by math.

Residents should not be alarmed if they see trash and recycling being put into the same truck (unless it’s being put there by Bigfoot) – but both are still being separated.  Split-body trucks allow for quicker service and will reduce the number of stops at the same location.  Residents are likely to see their collection time be earlier than usual, so we ask that residents place their trash and recycling curbside no later than 7 a.m.
