City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell spearheads a hostile takeover of the closest candy factory to Concord. Then he prints out the city memo on thousands of inpidual conversation hearts.

Pearly White

Park gets face time

On Thursday, Erica Hill, a co-anchor from The Today Show – Weekend Edition, taped a piece at White Park, Aspell writes. Hill’s mother grew up in Concord and worked for the Parks and Recreation Department. The piece will be aired later in February.

Although none of Hill’s relatives have ever worked for the Insider, we once had lunch with her uncle, Hector, and he seemed like a good guy.

Be Preparedness

Isn’t that the slogan?

Lieutenant Tim Robinson of the Concord Fire Department recently organized an educational event for 47 local Boy Scouts to receive merit badge training in emergency preparedness, Aspell writes. He picked 47 because it seemed like such an obvious, round number.

The event was held at the New Hampshire Fire Academy in Concord and featured speakers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Panel for Preparedness Preparation (that’s fake) and several off-duty members of the Concord Fire Department (those guys are real.)

Battalion Chief Ken Folsom, firefighter and paramedic Rob Ackerson and chief Dan Andrus were among the presenters.

Bad Main on Main

Water water nowhere

The General Services Department dealt with a water main leak on Main Street on Wednesday, which required shutting down the 20-inch water main in order to make repairs, Aspell writes. The department was able to schedule the shut down for 10 p.m. in order to disrupt as few customers as possible. Those in the shower at the time were most definitely disrupted. And probably naked.

There were approximately 80 customers without water for about two hours Wednesday night while the leak was repaired. The road was opened up for traffic and parking by 5 a.m. Thursday.
