Here she is in front of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. How tall is it? Taller than two stacks of Insiders, at least. Tsk tsk, looks like someone wasn’t doing their homework. Full disclosure: it was us ( ::hangs head in shame:: ). Instagram user @megnutty tagged us in this sweet photo – of Angelina’s Ristorante Italiano – way back in the fall, and we were too asleep at the wheel to spot them. Well, we’ve righted that wrong. Also, we thought we could all use a break from snow photos (please anyone taking a vacation let us stow away in your luggage winter is so cold ahhh).

Reader Earl Burroughs sent us this photo of the Wonalancet Club’s float from a Concord parade in 1897, although float is probably used liberally here (a sleigh full of that many dudes would obviously sink – duh.) Anyway, we’ve decided that modern parades could benefit from utilizing more items from this photo, most notably different colored horses, those amazing chef-type hats the club members are wearing and the mitten, ball and mustache combination on the guy who was obviously the inspiration for the Chef Boyardee cans. Also, suggested club slogan: Wanalancet? I’d love a lancet!

Here’s some proof that being neighborly isn’t entirely a lost art. These kind residents on Sewalls Falls Road took it upon themselves to warn fellow motorists of potential hazards in the roadway. It was either that or some enterprising squirrels, but that seems somehow less likely. Either way, thanks, kind sirs!

This photo and note came to us from Sylvia Miskoe: “You can’t get there from here, but Sylvia Miskoe and Brenda Sens managed to get to Havana, Cuba, earlier in November. Here we are in front of a 400-year-old wall in the old section of the city.” Don’t worry, wall, you don’t look a day over 385. Also, sweet hats, ladies!

Who are these people and why are they smiling? In regards to the latter, it probably has something to do with the tropical scene and donning of short-sleeved shirts. Spoiler alert: this picture wasn’t taken this week! Back in 2011, these 10 folks from Concord traveled to Baltimore to attend an East Coast meeting hosted by the national YMCA, which gives grants to communities serious about weaving together strategies for wellness. Resulting from this trip: tans! Oh, and the founding of the Capital Area Wellness Coalition. The CAWC is a group that partners, plans and implements strategies for healthy change in our community. The goal of the CAWC is to leverage the collective resources in the community to help create healthier lifestyles. For more information or to join their efforts, please contact Johane Telgener of the Center for Health Promotion at jtelgene@crhc.org. And keep your eyes peeled for the group’s monthly column in the Insider. And also for that already-fit guy casually photobombing the group in the background. That’s creepy! This photo came to us from reader Earl Burroughs, and features Butters Tavern, a famous hostelry back in the days of stage coaches and river boats, located on South Main Street opposite West Street. Fun fact: It took so long to take a photo back in those days, that couple out front left the house to pose and by the time they turned to head back, the entire structure had been overtaken by leafy greens. This isn’t just Jodi Roos and friend Ellen Kaplan holding the ‘Insider’ at the Sea of Gallilee in Israel. Well, it is that. But it’s also a trip down ‘Insider’ memory lane. You see, it was Roos’s daughter, Alexa Roos, who was interviewed by the ‘Insider’ while in New Zealand. Roos sent a copy of the paper featuring the interview to Alexa, and she snapped the first ever Where the Insider Goes photo. And, as Roos notes, “the rest, as they say, is history.”
