The next exhibition at Two Villages Art Society in Hopkinton features the work of well-known Concord artist Pamela R. Tarbell. “Color Vibrations: Paintings by Pamela R. Tarbell” will be on display from October 18 – November 15, with an opening reception from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18.

This exhibit also offers a unique experience to meet the artist in her own gallery as well as at the opening reception. The Pamela R. Tarbell Gallery will open to visitors from October 18 – November 15, 12-4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. The artist will hold an “Open House” with refreshments at her gallery on Saturday, November 1, at 236 Hopkinton Road, Concord, from 12-2 p.m. Children are welcome!

Over the course of her 50-year career as an artist, Pamela R. Tarbell has exhibited nationally, garnered numerous awards, and taught painting to artists of all ages. For more than 25 years, she has owned and directed Mill Brook Gallery & Sculpture Garden in Concord. Her paintings are included in private and corporate collections, and she has created commissioned work for many organizations, including the New Hampshire Committee for the Arts and the Society for Protection of New Hampshire Forests.

Tarbell strives to “create art that feeds the soul, tells a story, and always leaves you with something new to enjoy or discover.” She goes beyond a basic idea to create layered motifs and kaleidoscopic compositions, using bold colors in unexpected ways. Paraphrasing the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, she says that color provokes a psychic vibration and acts upon every part of the human body. She says, unapologetically, that she likes to “hit people over the head with color.” That’s why you’ll see orange tree trunks, blue lily pads, purple ferns, and rippling yellow clouds bursting from her canvases. Prepare to be hit on the head!

Since opening in 2019, Two Villages Art Society has presented more than 50 solo and group exhibitions of New Hampshire artists. The gallery is free and open to the public at 846 Main Street in Hopkinton’s Contoocook Village. Regular gallery hours are 12-4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
