Forward Sunapee, a recently established nonprofit organization dedicated to
help preserve the character, architecture & buildings, support environmental protection, and strengthen the local economy and support year-round vitality in the Sunapee Harbor area.
The Board of Directors has restructured its committee structure to refocus on actionable, short-term steps.
The organization’s Board of Directors includes Dave Hoffman, President; Amanda Spears,
Vice President; Chris Murphy, Treasurer; Carol Wallace; David Andrews; Phil Harrell;
Rosa Whipple; and Tyler Webb.
“Forward Sunapee is about bringing people together to envision what is possible for our
community and then turning those ideas into action,” said Dave Hoffman, President of the
Forward Sunapee Board of Directors. “We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm we have already seen from residents, business owners and community members, and we encourage anyone who wants to help shape Sunapee’s future to get involved by volunteering for a committee service or participating in community outreach activities.”
The organization has recently restructured the initial six committees, each focused on a specific area of opportunity:
● Connectivity, Route 11 & Signage Committee — Focused on improving safety and
connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles around Route 11 and Main Street, as
well as enhancing signage throughout Sunapee Harbor.
● Sugar River Walk Committee — Working to improve and enhance the Riverwalk,
including landscaping, signage, public access and preservation of the area’s historic and
natural resources.
● 34/36 River Road Development Committee — Exploring possibilities for the 34 and 36
River Road properties, with an emphasis on year-round businesses, family-oriented
activities, balanced growth and creating a social center for the community.
● Harbor Reconfiguration & Parking Committee — Researching opportunities to create
a more vibrant Harbor while preserving its character, including green space, parking,
traffic flow, public boat access and other infrastructure improvements.
● Events, PR & Communications Committee — Developing events and communications
initiatives designed to bring residents and visitors to Sunapee Harbor, with an emphasis
on families, children and increasing activity during the shoulder and off seasons.
● Fundraising Committee — Developing a broad-based fundraising strategy to support
Forward Sunapee’s initiatives and create sustainable, purpose-driven funding for
community projects.
The response from the community has already been tremendous. Over sixty people joined the initial set of committees.
Community members who are not currently serving on a committee can sign up to receive
updates about committee meetings, community meetings and opportunities to contribute
specific expertise or skills. Residents may also express interest in serving as a subcommittee member, allowing them to lend their knowledge to a particular project or area of need as opportunities arise.
“Whether you have an hour to volunteer, a particular skill to share, an idea for Sunapee, or
simply an interest in staying informed, there is a place for you,” the Board said. “The future of Sunapee belongs to the entire community, and we want as many voices as possible to be part of the conversation.”
