“Home Sweet Home,” a fiber and mixed media exhibit featuring six local women artists, opens with a reception with refreshments on Saturday, October 17 at 12-2 p.m. at Two Villages Art Society, 846 Main Street, Contoocook, NH.

“Home Sweet Home” explores the quiet comfort of having a safe place to call home. Through fiber, glass, and ceramics, artists Lisa Almeida, Anne Boedecker, Sara Burns, Cheryl Miller, Laura Morrison, and Verne Orlosk portray the familiar spaces and objects that shape a sense of home. There is a sense of safety, comfort, and familiarity we equate with home. The artists hope their works evoke those feelings in viewers.

They also hope it serves as a reminder that not everyone is fortunate enough to enjoy the comforts of home. For that reason, the artists will be donating a portion of the proceeds from their sales to the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness, in support of their Permanent Supportive Housing Program (PSH).

“Everyone deserves a safe home,” says project organizer Lisa Almeida. “I am excited we are supporting PSH because it doesn’t just provide people with a safe, dignified place to live; it offers them support so they can remain housed and enjoy long-term independent living.”

“They say if you give someone a fish, they’ll eat for a day,” she continues, “but if you teach them to fish, they’ll never be hungry again. The PSH program is like teaching people to fish, but with housing.” You can learn more about the PSH program by visiting ConcordHomeless.org.

Learn more about the artists and their project at an Artists’ Talk on Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 p.m. The “Home Sweet Home” exhibit is sponsored by Merrimack County Savings Bank and runs through November 14. Gallery hours Mon.-Thurs. 12-4 p.m.
