Merrimack County Savings Bank is proud to be a longstanding supporter of Second Start in Concord and the vital resources it provides to more than 1,000 students annually.
In partnership with the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority, The Merrimack has pledged $10,000 to help strengthen internal operations at Second Start to better support its employees.

Second Start is a private non-profit educational organization that has been active in Concord since 1971. Its wide variety of programs is designed to improve the economic and educational well-being of New Hampshire residents through early childhood education, substance misuse prevention for middle- and high-school students, adult education programs and services for New Americans.
“We’re grateful for The Merrimack’s support as we implement new initiatives to improve daily operations,” said William Mealey, Chief Executive Officer at Second Start. “The generosity of our local organizations helps us continue to evolve to meet the needs of the community.”
Tax credits administered by the Community Development Finance Authority allow businesses to fund qualifying economic or community development projects in exchange for relief of some state business tax payments. Any business with operations in New Hampshire that contributes to a CDFA tax credit project receives a New Hampshire state tax credit worth 75 percent of their contribution. The credit can be used over a period of five years to reduce the business’ state tax liability (business profits, business enterprise, or insurance premium taxes).
The tax credit program allows New Hampshire businesses to use their state tax dollars to support local projects that they care about. CDFA reviews many project applications each year and awards tax credits to those they determine are feasible and will make the biggest impact on economic development in the state.
