SPCA to host open house, wish list drive on Thursday

It’s hard to believe that it has been four years since the Pope Memorial SPCA building was opened at 94 Silk Farm Road.

But it must be true since the local spot that “cares for abandoned and homeless pets, protects and advocates for pets in need, and promotes the humane treatment of all animals” is hosting a summer open house and wish list drive on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. to celebrate.

There will be tours of the shelter, which if you haven’t been to is really nice and filled with all kinds of animals just waiting for that right person or family to give them a forever home.

They will hold a dedication of the new Barn Cat catio. Add in an ice cream and it’s got the making of one fun afternoon.

But don’t forget that in addition to the open house part of the day, this is also the wish list drive. Since the SPCA is caring for so many animals every day of the year, they’re always in need of supplies. So bring something with you on Thursday to help out.

For dogs, the SPCA is looking for things like: Purina One Dry Dog Food (chicken or salmon variety), hard chewing toys like nylabones and bully sticks, and busy/food dispensing toys.

They also need Purina One Dry Cat Food (chicken and turkey variety), Purina Dry kitten food, Frontline or Advantage, toys and non-clumping clay cat litter. There’s also a want for small animal wooden chew toys.

On the supply front, there are heavy duty trash bags (33 gallon size), liquid laundry detergent (for hi-efficiency washers), hand sanitizer, paper towels and much more.

For the complete list, visit popememorialspca.org/ wish-list.

Can’t make it? You can still drop off donations at the SPCA at another time, at one of three drop locations around town (on the website) or through their Amazon Wish List.
