Entertainment: A symphony of music to be heard in Concord this week

We had quite a few theatrical performances on the entertainment docket last week. This week, there happens to be a boatload of music and not so many theater shows. It just goes to show that you never know what you’re gonna get around the capital city, but you know it will always be good.

Here’s what’s up this week:

Music

Tuesday

  • Kid Pinky at Hermanos Cocina Mexicana at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday

  • Joel Cage at Hermanos at 6:30 p.m.
  • Ivory & Fox at Concord City Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

  • Richard Gardzina at Hermanos at 6:30 p.m.
  • Gustov Mahler’s Symphony, No. 2 at the Capitol Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. The Southern New Hampshire University Orchestra, SNHU Choirs, Manchester Choral Society and Manchester Community Music School Orchestra perform Gustav Mahler’s “Resurrection Symphony.” Free; door donations gratefully accepted.
  • Music Out of the ‘Box: Danika & Jeb at Hatbox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $17 at hatboxnh.com. Acoustic duo from Nashville will play original and cover tunes such as “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by The Beatles.
  • The Burnouts at Penuche’s at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

Friday

  • Blue Light Rain at Area 23 at 8:30 p.m.
  • Stuck in Time Band at Makris Lobster & Steak House at 8 p.m.
  • Mallory Weiss at Penuche’s at 9 p.m. $3 cover.
  • Dirty Looks at Pit Road Lounge at 8 p.m.

Saturday

  • Eugene Durkee at Hermanos at 7:30 p.m.
  • Jay Daly and the New England Brass at Concord City Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at Gibson’s Bookstore, the UPS Store and at the door. Accompanying children free.
  • TheaterSports Improv at Hatbox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $17 at hatboxnh.com. Theater Sports is a type of improv comedy where two teams compete in rounds to win points.
  • Mikey G at Chen Yang Li in Bow at 8 p.m.
  • The Youngest Sun at Penuche’s at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

Sunday

  • John Franzosa at Hermanos at 6:30 p.m.
  • Open mic at Penuche’s.
  • Nuff Said at Pit Road Lounge at 8 p.m.

Monday

  • John Franzosa at Hermanos at 6:30 p.m.

Next Tuesday

  • Lester Hirsh at Hermanos at 6:30 p.m.

 

Theater

  • The Hot L Baltimore at NHTI on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12, free for NHTI students, available at the door. The show revolves around the residents of a decaying hotel, who face eviction when the property is condemned. The title refers to the hotel’s neon sign, which is missing the “e” in the word “hotel.”
