It’s not that often that two downtown powerhouses team up for a night of fun and fancy fashion, so when it does happen, one really can’t afford to miss it – it’s like a total solar eclipse and a blood super blue moon occurring at the same time.

We’re talking about the first-ever Look Like a Star with LDR fashion show, a collaboration between Lilise Designer Resale and Red River Theatres set to go down Feb. 15 at the clothing store on Storrs Street.

Red River has for years held a red carpet Oscars party on the night of the awards show, in which guests are encouraged to dress up in their best formal wear as though they were at the real event. The problem is, not many people have a wardrobe that’s well-suited for a red carpet event.

That’s where Lilise and owner Elyssa Alfieri come in.

“Last year I went (to Red River’s Oscars party) and without even realizing, I was looking around and there were probably about a dozen women wearing dresses from my store,” Alfieri said.

That set the creative wheels in motion.

Alfieri then mentioned the observation to Red River Executive Director Angie Lane, who noticed the same thing. The next thing you know, the idea of a red carpet fashion show was born.

“We’d been thinking about it for the last year or so,” Alfieri said. “We figured, why not show off the stuff you can get here (at Lilise) for it (the red carpet event)?

If you’re not familiar with the store, Lilise specializes in vintage and designer women’s clothing, and it’s all secondhand. This isn’t to say it’s cheesy old hand-me-downs – you can regularly find big-name, high-end pieces at the shop, including designers such as Armani, Chanel and J. Crew.

The store also carries formal wear year-round, a rarity in the fashion world. This is the type of stuff that will be shown off at the fashion show.

“It’s a fun way to highlight that it’s available secondhand,” Alfieri said, referring to high-end designer clothing.

The idea is that the fashion show will give you some good ideas for going all-out at Red River’s red carpet event, which will be March 4 starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Lilise fashion show will also include some light refreshments provided by Red River. There will even be special in-store sales for that night only. And after the event, if you go to Lilise and show proof that you got a ticket for the Red River event, that will work as sort of a coupon to get a discount on a purchase of formal wear to wear to the red carpet night.

The fashion show will be next Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the store, 113 Storrs St. The event is free but registration is required to get an accurate headcount. Go to facebook.com/LiliseDesignerResale to register.
