Red River hosting youth film festival
On Saturday at 10 a.m., ConcordTV will host the 2017 Youth Video Film Festival at Red River Theatres.
The event will begin with greetings from station manager Josh Hardy and executive director Doris Ballard. Programming and production assistant Melissa Sweatt and production and training assistant Justin Scarelli, who supervised this year’s camps, will be on hand for the festivities. The festival will include a screening of select highlights taken during ConcordTV’s four summer video camps, as well as our April Vacation camp earlier this year – videos all created by filmmakers age 8 to 14. Running time of festivities plus film will be 90 minutes. Admission is free for age 14 and under. A donation of $5 is requested for adults. Tickets are available online at redrivertheatres.org or at the Red River box office, 11 S. Main St. Tickets will also be available at the door. Quilters guild to meet in new spot
The Capital Quilters Guild will hold their September meeting on Friday in their new location, the United Baptist Church, 39 Fayette St. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Speaker will be Pam Weeks, a curator from the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass. Cost is $5 for non-members.

Tall Granite Big Band concert
Come “Swing into Fall with Tall Granite” as the Tall Granite Big Band makes a rare Concord appearance on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Eagle Square. This free concert features a 17-piece big band with female vocalist, Emilia Halstead. At nearly “three years old,” the band has truly come into it’s own and boasts wonderful arrangements of both swing band classics and more modern pieces as well.
This concert, which extends the outdoor concert season in Eagle Square by a few weeks, is made possible by the generosity of the band and the First Congregational Church where the band rehearses. Come join the fun – it’s free!

Welcome Home Sunday this week
Welcome Home Sunday will be celebrated at East Congregational Church on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Suncook Valley Chorale open sings
The Suncook Valley Chorale will host open sing nights in the Concord High School Music Room on Monday and Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. – attend either, or both.

Poet laureate at Gibson’s Friday
On Friday at 5:30 p.m. Gibson’s Bookstore will host N.H. Poet Laureate Alice B Fogel visits to present her newest volume of poetry, A Doubtful House: Poems.
She will be joined by Kittery poet Joal Hetherington. Hetherington has been caught up in the crafting of words all her life. She has received awards for both her poetry and fiction from the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, and her work has been published in Common Ground Review. Her new volume of verse is On the Edge of No Answer.
The event is free and open to the public.
