Don’t miss Family Fun Day this Saturday

As a pair of guys with young families, we are all about free family fun.

We can imagine that would go for the rest of you as well. Who doesn’t like something that gets you outside, helps tire the kids out for nap time and is free?

When we learned that Word Of Life Christian Fellowship Church was hosting a Family Fun Day on Saturday, we had to let all of you know about it. That’s kind of what we do around here.

“It’s something we’ve been trying to put together,” said Sam Huff, media director and event coordinator for the church.

Before we get too far into telling you all the great stuff that will be going on, rest assure that this isn’t some sneaky way to get you to the church. This is just a day of fun they wanted to share with the community, while raising money for its Capital City Children’s Camp this summer, which is free for children ages 6 to 12.

“We figured this would be a good way to incorporate (the summer camp fundraiser) with a fun community event,” Huff said.

So while admission to Family Fun Day is free, there will be other things going on that will help the church raise funds for the summer camp.

But first, let’s talk about the free fun. There are two giant inflatables, a double slide and a big octagon arena that are fit for both children and adults, as well as a small bounce house for the little ones.

There will be a petting zoo and horseback rides and tons of field games throughout the day. What kind of field games? Well, things like ring toss, three-legged races, a pie-eating contest, a prize wheel and chances to win candy.

The way the church is raising money is through vendors renting space for the craft fair, and tickets sales for some pretty sweet raffle prizes. We’re talking about passes to Disney World, Story Land and Water Country, gift baskets and gift certificates to all kinds of local businesses and restaurants. Raffle tickets range from $1 to $10 depending on the prize.

Food trucks will also be on location if you’re hungry.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a rain date of Sunday has been scheduled.

“If all goes well, we’ll plan to expand and add each year,” Huff said.
