As the old saying goes, some of the best things in life are free.

So it’s kind of a big deal that Concord Housing and Redevelopment is once again footing the bill for children in Concord and Penacook to take swim lessons at no cost.

This is the third straight year that Concord Housing and Redevelopment has sponsored Concord Parks and Recreation swim lessons, which should mean there’s going to be a lot of good swimmers in this area in the coming years. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t want to do something that’s both free and teaches you a valuable life skill?

Each child will have the opportunity to participate in a two-week swim lesson, which is a total of eight classes. Swim lessons are offered at five of the seven city pools and begin June 19.

There are four sessions: June 19-29; July 3-13 (no swim class July 4, make-up class is July 7); July 17-27; and July 31-Aug. 10. There are both morning and evening classes available.

City pools open for the season on Saturday, June 17, but just be careful since you won’t have participated in your free swim lessons yet.

Registration is required for all swim lessons, and residents can begin signing up on Wednesday. Space is limited for each session, so sign up early to get the class time you want.
