Riverbend offering parenting class

Parenting the Second Time Around, a free eight-week workshop series for grandparents, relatives and others who are parenting again, will be held Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 10.

The workshop will be held at Riverbend Children’s Intervention Program, 105 Loudon Road, Bldg. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

HealthSouth hires chief nursing officer

Jean Francis has been named chief nursing officer of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Concord, an inpatient physical rehabilitation hospital that serves patients recovering from conditions such as stroke, neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, complex orthopedic conditions and amputations.

In her position as CNO, Francis oversees the quality of nursing care provided and is responsible for the development and implementation of the plans for providing nursing care, treatment and services to ensure optimal service and superior outcomes.

“We are so pleased to have Jean join our team at HealthSouth Concord as chief nursing officer,” said HealthSouth Concord CEO Catherine Devaney. “She shares the commitment to high-quality outcomes and patient care that are not only important to us, but to our patients and their families. Her experience, proven leadership and knowledge base for quality initiatives made her an excellent candidate for this role.”

Prior to being named as CNO of the inpatient physical rehabilitation hospital, Francis served as the vice president of clinical operations for a regional visiting nurse association and as the clinical nurse manager of the emergency department in a local, 300-bed hospital.

Mindful Grieving begins Jan. 4

Concord Regional VNA is offering a bereavement program “Mindful Grieving” on Wednesdays, Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St. All sessions are from 5 to 6:15 p.m.

These sessions teach mindfulness as a path that honors, transforms and helps to heal grief. They are open to anyone who is living with grief following the loss of a loved one.

Crisis Center gets $7.500 donation

In November, the Concord Contemporary Club hosted the first-ever Mr. Concord Pageant to raise funds for the Crisis Center of Central N.H.

The event was a huge success, and the club recently donated $7,500 to the Crisis Center to help in their work against human trafficking and domestic violence.

VNA to host walk-in Wednesday

Concord Regional VNA is offering Walk-In Wednesday on Dec. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Heights Community Center, 14 Canterbury Road in Concord. Walk-In Wednesday is held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same time.

Walk-In Wednesday is an opportunity to get your questions answered. A Concord Regional VNA team member is available to meet with people individually regarding their specific concerns. Whether it is in-home support, end-of-life care, community health services or questions regarding advance directives, we are here to help.

This free program is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is not required.
