You know us, there is no way we could do a pumpkins issue without diving head first into the world of desserts.

And when we think pumpkin treats, whoopie pies shoot to the top of the list. While there are plenty of places that makes them, word on the street was that Crust & Crumb had put a new twist on the classic fall delectable. Safe to say, we didn’t need more reason to stop in and investigate ourselves.

Turns out, our sources were right. Crust & Crumb had spiced things up a bit with their pumpkin whoopie creation. Some places use cream cheese as the middle or just a straight up buttercream filling, but this one paired another New Hampshire favorite – maple.

That’s right, this pumpkin whoopie pie had a maple filling and while at first it sounded a little too exotic for our dessert taste buds, the first bite made us realize that was not the case.

The actual outer cake shell was not as sweet as we’re accustomed to and more on the savory side, but we can see why – because the maple filling more than made up for it in the sweet department.

Just to be clear, it was quite delicious and something we might want to investigate again before fall is over. So if you want to be safe, you might want to grab one soon because they’re pretty popular from what we heard. Trust us, it’s worth the extra calories.
