It’s almost that time again – time to crown a Miss Capital Area, Miss Capital Area’s Outstanding Teen, Miss Liberty and Miss Liberty’s Outstanding Teen.

The Miss Capital Area Pageant (put on by the Miss Capital Area Scholarship Program) is a competition that will feature 17 young women from New Hampshire all vying for a crown. They’ll compete for one of two teen titles and one of two adult titles. These winners will then try to become the state champion and hopefully the national Miss America.

But it all starts in Concord – at the Concord City Auditorium, to be exact, on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.

That’s when these women will put it all on the line. Judging will be based on talent (30 percent), interview (25 percent), evening wear, lifestyle and fitness in a swimsuit (swimsuit portion only judged in adult divisions, not teen), and an on-stage question.

Up for grabs is $9,000 in scholarship money, of which $2,500 goes to Miss Capital Area and Miss Liberty, $1,000 goes to the first runner-up, $700 goes to the second runner-up and $500 goes to the third runner-up. Each teen division winner will take home $500, with $100 for each of the first three runners-up.

All of the money is strictly for educational purposes – funds will be sent directly to the institute of higher learning of each winner’s choice. If a winner is already out of college, the money will go toward paying off student loans.

Tickets will be available at the door starting about 5:30 p.m. for $15.
