The Capital Region Food Program named Debra Bourbeau of Bow (second from right) and Jackie Whatmough of Concord (second from left) as their 2015 Volunteer Hero Award winners at the 42nd Annual Blessing of the Baskets ceremony at the National Guard Armory. The Volunteer Hero Award was established in 2008 and recognizes those who have provided extraordinary service to the organization over a long period of time, who strongly believe in the mission of the Capital Region Food Program and who have demonstrated the ability to secure support for the program from the community. Pictured with Whatmough and Bourbeau, who have supported the program for more than 35 years combined, are First Gentleman Tom Hassan, Maria Manus Painchaud (Holiday Food Basket chairwoman) and Peter Hayden (Capital Region Food Program board chairman). This year’s Holiday Food Basket project distributed more than 4,000 boxes of food that fed 2,136 families in 18 communities.
