Here’s what we’d like to see in Concord

So we should probably try to make it happen

We sure do like Concord. And that’s a good thing because if we didn’t, our jobs would not be all that fun to go to each day.

Luckily, we get to enjoy all the sights and sounds that come with covering the capital city – along with the people, things and animals that make Concord an amazing place to live, work and play.

But, like all of you, we have some ideas as to how Concord could be even better. We know, some of you may be wondering how that’s possible, but just hear us out. So we put together a list of stuff we’d like to see change, happen or open in 2016.

Some of it might be a bit of a pipe dream, others somewhat realistic and a few that could actually happen. We just won’t know until about this time next year.

∎ A BBQ joint: Sure there are some places that serve a little barbecue, either in its true form or sandwich version, but we’re talking about a place for just BBQ. Just imagine having the choice of ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken with sides like mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and cinnamon apples. Sounds delicious doesn’t it?

∎ Nice weather for the Granite State Music Festival: Last year sure was tough on organizers as Mother Nature decided to do a little rain dance during the annual music gathering. So a little sunshine and warm weather would be much appreciated.

∎ The return of the Multicultural Festival: Last year it was canceled due to funding, but we sure do hope it makes a triumphant return in 2016.

∎ Even more restaurants: We like to eat and do Food Snobs, so this is a bit self-serving, but nonetheless a delicious idea.

∎ Optional work Fridays: Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could have the option of working on Friday? It would take some getting use to, especially if everyone decided to take the same day off, but it could work. We’ll be the guinea pigs and let you know how it goes.

∎ Free candy Fridays: Just in case the optional work day thing doesn’t pan out.

∎ Ice for the Black Ice hockey tournament: It’s kind of necessary for the annual outdoor hockey tourney that supposed to take place in a few weeks.

∎ Homeless shelter: We know there’s a finally a plan for this winter, but a permanent solution would be even better for everyone.

∎ Community bikes: Wouldn’t it be cool to just grab a bike and cruise around the redesigned North Main Street?

∎ Community sports cars: Wouldn’t it be even cooler to just grab a Ferrari and cruise around the redesigned North Main Street?

∎ Free parking: We can dream, can’t we?

∎ More cat shows: What can we say, we like cats. Especially ones that know tricks.

∎ Outdoor movies: Free and family friendly, of course.

∎ Heated sidewalks and streets throughout the entire city: Let’s stomp out snow and ice once and for all!

∎ A building that actually does have a swimming pool on the roof: That way when we tell the new guy to go check it out, we won’t be lying.

∎ Modern Concord Coaches: These could have off-road tires, windows, heat and air conditioning, TV monitors in the headrests, heated leather seats and surround sound complete with subwoofers. Think about it…

∎ A tie-dyed State House dome: Because gold is so 2015.

∎ No more Mondays: Can we just cut this day out completely and quit dragging the week out?
