Piccola Opera to perform at Market Days

Piccola Opera recently located its office and studios on North Main Street in downtown Concord. As they prepare for their summer festival production of The Magic Flute, things are getting very busy at their new studio.

“We are amazed at how well we have been received here in Concord. We are booked three out of five afternoons with voice lessons and are accepting more students as we speak,” says Carlos Martinez, musical director of Piccola Opera and conductor of The Magic Flute. “Things are getting very exciting around here as we get closer to the opera performances this July.”

The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be presented fully staged with orchestra on July 24 and 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Concord City Auditorium. The 30-plus member cast will take to the stage in this opera classic, re-telling the magical, musical tale of faith, hope and love in high style.

Many of the opera performers for The Magic Flute are finalist winners of last fall’s Piccola Opera Voice Competition. The lead performers are coming from all over New England to sing in this production. In addition, there are young performers as well in the leading roles of “The Three Spirits” with many polished middle and high school singers who placed in the N.H. All State Music Festival also singing in the production.

“What better way to educate than to have young singers learn about opera by performing it live on stage? These young singers are more than ready for the challenge,” Martinez says.

Members of Piccola Opera will also take to the stage at Concord Market Days on June 25, at 1 p.m. and June 27 at 2 p.m. at the Concord Food Co-op stage.

Piccola Opera is a 501 (c)3 organization whose mission is to educate, enlighten and entertain the public in the realm of opera.
