The Merrimack County Conservation District is accepting applications for the Grimes Memorial Scholarship. This year, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Merrimack County resident who has been accepted into a two or four-year program of study in the field of agriculture, forestry, environmental science, horticulture, wetland science, environmental engineering, soil science, wildlife biology or other related natural resource program. The deadline for receipt of the application has been extended to May 15.
The scholarship honors Stanley Grimes, a Pembroke dairy farmer who served for 33 years on the Merrimack County Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors and 18 years on the Pembroke School Board. He was a lifelong Pembroke resident, a 1945 Pembroke Academy graduate and the hardworking owner of Grimes Dairy on Buck Street.
