Merrimack Valley High School honored local work sites that provided opportunities this school year for students in transition, in a ceremony April 22. These area businesses make it possible for Transition Services students at MVHS and MVMS to learn valuable job skills, some specific and others relevant to all employment. Students participate in realistic job experiences and gain self-confidence and greater independence, while becoming more connected to the community.

The appreciation event gave parents an opportunity to meet MV staff and job site representatives. Several Transition Services providers from area agencies attended a parent information event at the high school on the same evening, allowing parents to connect with a variety of local student-centered organizations.

Transition Services also recognized many other team members. We appreciate the MV teachers’ dedication. We are fortunate for paraprofessionals who support students at school and work locations. We cherish bus drivers who ensure our students get to sites safely and on time. We appreciate our job coach who patiently teaches work and organization skills. We thank the MV school facilities, such as the cafeteria and transportation garage for providing training areas, and the many others who support our efforts.

The following locations have provided work sites and experiences for MV students this school year: Friends of Forgotten Children; Hannaford Supermarkets, Concord; Havenwood-Heritage Heights; Merrimack County Nursing Home; Murray’s Farm Greenhouses; MVHS Food Service; NH Commodity Supplemental Food Program; Penacook Community Center; Pleasant View Center; Robert’s Fleece and Flower Farm and Greenhouses; Pope Memorial SPCA; Penacook Community Kitchen, located at the United Church of Penacook; and the Merrimack Valley Transportation Department, Custodial Department, Food Service Department and Maintenance Department.
