Music school piano trio to hold concert Friday

When Felix Mendelssohn wrote his monumental Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Robert Schumann declared it “the most masterly trio of the present era. . . . It is a beautiful composition that years from now will delight our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

This piano trio, along with works of Johann Sebastian Bach and Jean Baptiste Loeillet, will be featured in a performance by Concord Community Music School faculty members Bozena O’Brien (violin), Matthew Laughlin (cello) and Abigail Charbeneau (piano) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, in the Concord Community Music School Recital Hall, 23 Wall St., in downtown Concord.

Along with the seminal Mendelssohn trio, the group will perform the lesser-known Piano Trio Sonata in G major by Loeillet, a Belgian baroque-era composer.

In addition to these compositions for violin, cello and piano, Laughlin will perform Bach’s Suite 2 in D minor for solo cello. This dark, dramatic, and emotional piece is one of Bach’s Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, which are among the composer’s most popular works.

Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 228-1196 or visit ccmusicschool.org.
