Join the Co-op for a tasty journey around the world

The Concord Food Co-op’s award-winning Celery Stick Café hot bar will set sail on a tour of the world’s cuisine, and everyone is invited. For 13 consecutive Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Feb. 20 until May 15, the chefs will showcase a different region’s food on the hot bar. Sweet tooths be glad: The pastry chefs are in on the trip, too. You’ll have the chance to try unusual treats like sticky toffee pudding from the UK and cashew meringue buttercream layered torte from Thailand.

To join the World Cuisine Tour, grab a free passport at the café. This will grant you access to the tour rewards program. Every time you purchase lunch or dinner during a World Cuisine day, ask the café staff to stamp your passport. Earn five stamps, and you’ll receive a free pass to a Co-op calendared event. Collect 10 stamps on your passport, and you’ll receive two free passes. You do not have to be a Co-op member to take part.

“I have been a chef for many years, and this World Cuisine Tour is probably the most interesting thing that I have ever done,” said executive chef Scott Jones. “All of the Celery Stick Café chefs are very excited about the opportunity to create these very perse dishes. We have the opportunity to showcase our talent by handpicking some of the best cuisine from around the world.”

The themes include Downton Abbey with steak au poivre, decadent duchess potatoes, and Mrs. Patmore’s perfect pork roast; paella, Portuguese salted cod fritters, and pasta with lentil bolognese in the Mediterranean; and chicken peanut satay, coconut Thai curry, and muc chien in Southeast Asia. Other stops include East Asia, South Asia, Australia, Africa, South America, Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Europe. Vegetarian and vegan selections will always be included, and the hot bar price remains the same at $8.49 per pound. Look for a region-specific dessert each week. And on four special World Cuisine tour stops from 5 to 7 p.m., you can enjoy free beer and wine tastings.
