Concord 250 to hold community forum

Two months ago, approximately 50 community members filled City Council Chambers to learn about the Concord 250 organization and share ideas of how to celebrate the semiquincentennial – 250th anniversary of Concord’s charter, which falls on June 7, 2015.

The ideas ranged from illuminating the rich industry of Concord’s history, such as the Concord Coach and granite quarries to noting the significant role in politics that NH’s capitol has played.

Showcasing our many cultural institutions and historic architecture were also a reoccurring theme. The item in the spotlight of the celebration will be the extraction, opening and reburying of the time capsule, which is currently buried beneath City Plaza.

On Jan. 22, at 6 p.m., Concord 250 – a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of supporting and promoting the 250th anniversary of the City of Concord for the benefit of all residents, guests and friends of the city – will hold a second community forum.

The forum will again take place at City Council Chambers and is open to the public. The goal of this forum is to further engage and empower members of the community to lead and participate in events and activities that will lead up to the big celebration.

The first notable event that Concord 250 has planned will take place on June 7. In partnership with the Concord Historical Society and Merrimack County Savings Bank, the time capsule – which was buried in 1965 – will be extracted from its home in City Plaza and displayed in notable locations throughout the year until it is to be opened on June 7, 2015.

Festivities will include music and entertainment reminiscent of 1965.
