Ducks say quack

The Weekend on the Water celebration provided the perfect opportunity for the Rotary Club of Concord to unveil the 1st annual Duck Race at Kiwanis Riverside Park on Sunday afternoon, filling the river with little rubber duckies in a heated competition.

So how many ducks competed in the battle? Brace yourselves – More than 6,400! Pictured above is the Insider’s entry, posed with a trophy that unfortunately did not foreshadow success, despite our high hopes for the little guy.

No, we finished somewhere between 10th and 6400th (we’re going to guess 11th). But allow us to congratulate the following triumphant duck owners:

∎ First place – Wilma Wilson. Wilma took home a cool $1,000 in perhaps the best rubber duck investment of all time.

∎ Second place – Nancy Martin. For her efforts and expert coaching, she received $500.

∎ Third place – Tina Welsh. She pocketed $250.

It should also be noted that each of the top three also received a shiny trophy, and the rest of the top 10 nabbed $100 each.

Though the Insider duck was ultimately a colossal failure, he was still pretty cute. And it was certainly a thing to behold when all 6,400 ducks were loaded onto motorboats and dumped out of five massive trash barrels into the river. (Note: dumping things out of trash barrels into the river is prohibited in all non-duck race scenarios.)
