Bulletin Board: Friends Program involved in letter writing program

The Friends Program is leading a project for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance to encourage and engage people of all ages to show their support for our active armed services members, their families and veterans. The agency hopes to send more than 5,000 letters and notes to Operation Appreciation run by Blue Star Families, which will distribute them to active personnel and their families of all branches of the military and to veterans.

A survey of military families showed that 92 percent of them feel that the country doesn’t understand their challenges.

The agency’s Youth Mentoring program is involved, and many other organizations, including New Hampshire AmeriCorps, Girls, Inc., and many schools, after-school programs, senior centers and nursing homes have started taking part.

Some organizations are hosting letter-writing events and some are simply asking folks to write them inpidually.  Anyone can write one or more of any length, as long as they are positive expressions of appreciation.

Organizations or inpiduals who wish to join the effort can mail them to the Friends Program or Operation Appreciation or drop off letters at the Concord locations listed below: Friends Program (202 N. State St., Concord NH 03301), Heights Community Center, Centennial Senior Center, Horseshoe Pond Place.

For questions or other drop-off arrangements, please email dfanny@friendsprogram.org or call 1-800-536-1193, ext. 214.
