Everybody in the entire world loves some good old-fashioned grilled food from time to time. That is an irrefutable science-based fact that we just don’t have time to research and cite right now. Take our word for it, will you?! Sometimes, though, you don’t have the energy to grill up an awesome meal for yourself. In that case, leave the grilling to the professionals. We did just that last week when we picked up some lunch at Nadeau’s.

We’ve always heard a lot of buzz about Nadeau’s and their famous steak tip subs. With four locations in Manchester and one in Concord, they must be doing something right! So, we ordered one of those steak subs and a chicken Caesar salad and headed down to pick it up. Usually, we would take our meals in-house, but Nadeau’s is actually located within a Mobil Mart, so seating is limited at best. All we really care about is the food, though, and we dug into that as soon as we got back to our office.

We opted for a large steak sub ($9.49) with cheese, mayonnaise, onions, peppers and mushrooms. Unlike most places, Nadeau’s offers not just a small and large sub, but a medium as well; however, we couldn’t resist the 1∕2 pound of meat the large boasted. Luckily for us, our office was full of likely dining companions, so we grabbed a friend and split the monstrous sub.

The choice to use either shaved steak or steak tips can make or break a steak sub. Nadeau’s uses steak tips, which really puts them over the top. Chunks of tender, juicy steak abounded, spilling forth from the open bun-ends like a veritable cornucopia of beef. Combine that with expertly-grilled vegetables and that irresistible mayo/melted cheese mix and you’ve got everything a steak sub should be. Eat your heart out “Cheez-Wiz with,” Philadelphia! It’s not hard to see why Nadeau’s gets so much buzz about their signature sub.

Since we are the picture of perfect health, we ordered a grilled (grilled!) chicken Caesar salad ($7.99 for a large) to supplement our meal. This was also excellent, and certainly large; one could easily make a full meal out of the salad – it was practically bursting out of its to-go container! There was ample grilled chicken and crunchy croutons on the heaping bed of lettuce.

We’d visit Nadeau’s again for sure. The steak tip sub gives every sandwich shop and submarinery in the area a run for their money! Now to find out if the rest of the menu is that good.
