City Briefly

Each week, Tom Aspell dresses up in a weird outfit, climbs onto our roof in the middle of the night, and sneaks into our house, quiet as a mouse.

He’s so stealthy that he doesn’t wake up anybody – he’s gone before we even notice anything is up. When we wake up the next morning, however, we realize that he’s left the greatest gift of all for us – a city memo!

throw it down, little man

Youth hoops registration

The Parks and Recreation Department has extended the early-bird registration for youth basketball leagues, Aspell writes.

There are leagues for children as young as 4 up to 12th grade.  Four-year-olds in 12th grade? Oh, nevermind, We get it.

To avoid a $10 late fee, please register by Nov. 21.  Visit concordnh.gov/recreation or call 225-8690 for more information.

turkey day trash break

No Thanksgiving pick-up

There will be no trash or recycling collection Nov. 22 because of the Thanksgiving holiday, Aspell writes. Can someone pass the stuffing?

This week’s trash and recycling collection will occur as follows: Thursday’s route will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s route will be picked  up on Saturday.  Following so far? The transfer station will be closed Thursday  as well, as transferring is strictly prohibited on Thanksgiving.  Please note that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be on schedule. Please place trash at the curb by 7 a.m. Man, that’s early.

For questions regarding trash or recycling, contact Bestway Disposal at 224-5454.

Seasonal paving complete

Base paving of the Route 3/North State Street corridor is complete for the season, Aspell writes. Hooray, said everyone else in Concord.

Alas, hold your applause. Upcoming activities this week include installation of granite curbing,  bobbing for apples, driveway/sidewalk construction, pin the tail on the donkey and raising of utility castings.

This work will  occur from Rumford Street to Penacook Street. Minor delays are to be  expected in this area.  The contractor will be working only Monday through  Wednesday next week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Thursday he’ll be working on chowing some good grub.

leave your leaves

Reprocessing center open

During fall clean-up, the Fort Eddy Road Reprocessing Center will be open on several Saturdays to take residents’ leaves, Aspell writes.

The center will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, weather permitting.  Residents  may drop leaves off free of charge, but they will have to empty the leaves out of  bags themselves. It is recommended to remove more than one leaf at a time.

print from your lap

Does that sound dirty?

The Concord Public Library now offers wireless printing for laptop users, Aspell writes.  Directions for using wireless printing are available in a handout provided at the service desk – sounds homeworky – or online at concordpubliclibrary.net.

The printing system works for both PCs and Macs using the library wireless connection, and utilizes the same coin-operated printing system that patrons on public computers use. Please don’t try to insert coins into your laptop disc drive, though! If you are a laptop user, come in and check out this new service.
