Graffiti Glossary

Bomber: A piece that incorporates two-dimensional writing. More sophisticated than a simple tag.

Burner: A more elaborate piece or mural, large and colorful.

Cap: The nozzle to a spraypaint can. Different sizes are used for different styles (i.e. “fat caps”).

Crew: Graffiti artists who work together.

Getting up: To gain a reputation for one’s work.

Paste-up: A drawing or stencil fixed to a wall.

Rolling: A piece stays up before being painted over. (“It’s still rolling.”)

Tag: An artist’s signature, usually a one-color scribble.

Toy: Someone who crudely paints over an existing piece.

Writer: A graffiti artist.
