City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell walks out 100 paces into the woods, turns right and walks 50 more, then starts digging. And what does he unearth? A buried treasure – the city memo!

Work continues

All the live long day

Work continues on the rehabilitation of the large box culvert under North State Street, in the vicinity of Palm Street, Aspell writes. The contractor continues placement of concrete over the steel mesh cage and expects to complete the initial placement by the end of this week. Once the side walls and roof section of the culvert have been restored, focus will turn to restoring the culvert floor. The project is progressing on schedule and it is anticipated that work will be completed in four weeks. No disruption to traffic is expected (except when Tom is dancing in the streets).

howdy, pardner

Catch John Wayne

The Concord Public Library will host a movie night on March 8 at 6:30 p.m., Aspell writes. John Wayne won an Oscar for his performance as the drunken, uncouth, one-eyed U.S. MarshalRooster Cogburn, in this extraordinary Western. Cogburn is hired by a young girl (Kim Darby) to kill the man who murdered her father and stole the family nest egg. She accepts the help of a Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell), who is intent on the reward and accompanies them on the quest. We know Tom could have played those roles more convincingly. Rated G; 128 minutes; 1969. Call 225-8670 for the movie title.
