It had a nice, doughy crust.

It had a thin bottom crust but a fluffy “holding area.” The slice we had was billed as “cheese,” but could have easily passed for “extra cheese.”

<strong>Sal's Pizza</strong></p><p><strong>80 Storrs St., 226-0297</strong></p><p> </p><p><em>Taste: 3.5</em></p><p><em>Variety: 5</em></p><p><em>Size: 5</em></p><p> </p><p>Comments: The slice was a little dry (is there such a thing as “not greasy enough?”), but Sal’s more than made up for it with the multitude of different toppings it offers, as well as its giant slice size.

Perfect cheese-browning technique, a crunchy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside crust and a light, flavorful sauce make for an excellent lunch.

Perfect cheese-browning technique, a crunchy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside crust and a light, flavorful sauce make for an excellent lunch.

Nothing about it stood out. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s right down the middle.

<strong>And the winner is ...</strong></p><p> </p><p>With a score of 14 out of 15 pizzas, Vinnie’s Pizzaria takes the cake – um, pie – in this competion, narrowly edging out Sal’s.<br />We can’t say that we didn’t enjoy judging this competion, but we will allow that we need to judge either a “Best Treadmills” or a “Top Sweatpants Retailers” contest pretty soon.
