Evening hike

As the January full moon waxes, Five Rivers Conservation Trust will be hosting an evening hike (or snowshoe) through Winant Park in Concord. The event is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. and will meet at the Parker Academy parking lot on the corner of Hopkinton Road and Fisk Road. The special event will explore the trails of the park and climb Concord's highest hill with a view of the city.

David Ross, an avid hiker and geocacher, will lead the late-night stroll in search of hidden geocaches. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Guests should wear proper winter attire such as warm jacket, hat, mittens and boots. A headlamp or flashlight is also recommended in the event of overcast weather. Afterwards the group will warm up with hot chocolate and cookies at board member Greg Grappone's home just down the road.

Please RSVP to Jay Haines at director@5rct.org or 225-7225.
